From a humble beginning in 1959 Vijay Optica has come up to become a Household name in Optical Profession.

Vijay Optica started in 1953 as Wadles Ltd., on Moi Avenue, Mombasa, in the Fontanella Restaurant Arcade. The name changed to Lens Ltd., after a few years. It was then bought by East African Optical and the name changed to East African Optical Ltd. It was in March 1969 that Mr. Vijay Dhutia (current Director) bought the business and changed the name to Vijay Optica.

From then Vijay Optica has been growing up to the current ‘one of it’s kind’ Optical Showroom in Kenya pioneering in dispensing frames and contact lenses.

In 1994, Mr. Jayesh V. Dhutia (current Managing Director) qualified from the U.K. as an optician and took over the management to bring the U.K. standards in optics to Kenya. Mr. Jayesh Dhutia who is the son of Mr. Vijay Dhutia gained lots of experience from the father and also being U.K. qualified helped to improve the optical standards of the family business. Vijay Optica currently employs two opticians who both have ten years experience in optics.

Vijay Optica has received many awards over the years, including Lions award, Damar Optical Award for being one of the best customers, Singh Sabha Medical award for outreach screening.

Recently, Vijay Optica has opened a 2,000sq ft ultra modern optical showroom with a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere for its customers. This is adjacent to it’s old shop. The new showroom has two fully equipped consulting rooms and an in-house optical lab. The consulting rooms are fully equipped with the latest computerized machines for Refraction, Eye pressure examination, Visual field screeners, Slit lamp, etc. Eye examination at Vijay Optica includes 10point examination.
